Located in Brighton, Colorado and with expansive views of the Rocky Mountains, Riverdale Dunes Golf Course features 18 holes of varying difficulties, making it suitable for beginners and the more experienced golfers. The par-72 course stretches over 7,000 yards from the championship tees.
One of the defining features of the Riverdale Dunes is its incorporation of Colorado's natural beauty using native plants and grasses that complement the courses visual appeal in a very compelling and lasting way. The towering cottonwoods, the panoramic mountain views, and the tranquil sound of the river enhance the overall golfing experience.
Brighton, Colorado, nestled on the edge of the Rocky Mountains, is home to several scenic golf courses, but the Riverdale Dunes Golf Course stands out as a true gem among them. This course, famed for its intricate design and impeccable quality, offers golfers of all levels a challenging yet rewarding experience. This review aims to delve deep into what makes Riverdale Dunes a must-visit.
Designed by the renowned and legendary golf architects Pete and Perry Dye, the Riverdale Dunes Golf Course exemplifies the classic Dye family craftsmanship. The course integrates natural terrain features, including the winding South Platte River and the natural sand dunes, creating a unique layout that requires strategic play. While playing Riverdale Dunes Golf Course in the height of the summer season, the natural features facilitate a continued visual appreciation that lasts for the entire round. And while one can certainly find appreciation for these visual elements in a cart, my preference and recommendation is to walk the course, take the slow route, and soak in the design quality on foot.
The course showcases Dye's signature style—well-placed bunkers, undulating multi-tiered greens, and tempting water features that are sure to tack on strokes if tested unsuccessfully. Each hole is designed to test both the golfer's skills and their decision-making abilities. The course's design has a sinister quality that's both tempting and reminds us all of risk and reward outcomes.
From beginners to skilled players, I really enjoy Riverdale Dunes' ability to create an enjoyable experience from the 1st tee through to the 19th hole. For the purposes of this review, I played the blue tees which, according to the scorecard stretches the length to 6,430 total yards. If you have a GHIN number between 5 - 10, don't let this distance give you an impression that the course is simple or easy. Of course, one always needs to 'hit your shots', but in this case, you must also resist the temptations, calculate distances in a way that allows for a more fluid approach from tee to green, and play the course vs. attempting to defeat it.
Regardless of the level, every golfer will find the course demanding but fair. It rewards strategic play and punishes hasty decisions, ensuring an engaging round of golf every time. Take your time, trust your gut, and make decisions that don't overextend your play on any given day.
One of the standout features of the Riverdale Dunes Golf Course is its impeccable maintenance. The fairways are lush and well-manicured, the greens roll true, and the bunkers are consistently raked and free from debris. Compliments to the grounds crew who very clearly prioritize a quality experience from tee to green while also honoring the natural beauty and surroundings of Riverdale Dunes.
The quality extends beyond just the turf. The amenities—ranging from the clubhouse facilities to the practice areas—are top-notch. The staff are professional and friendly, ensuring every golfer feels welcome.
