The 2024 US Open is being played at Pinehurst Resort & CC (Course No. 2) in North Carolina from June 13 - 16, 2024.
Pinehurst No. 2, located in the heart of North Carolina, is one of the most iconic golf courses in the world and a historic venue for the 2024 U.S. Open. Renowned for its unique design and challenging play, Pinehurst No. 2 has been a staple in American golf history since its inception.
The course is characterized by its crowned, undulating greens, which are among the most challenging in the world. These greens require precision and skill, as they are designed to repel inaccurate approach shots, and any shot which lands on the periphery of greens is almost sure to run off. The sandy, natural areas surrounding the fairways and greens add to the difficulty, creating a rugged, yet beautiful landscape that requires strategic play. These native plants are meant to honor the Scottish heritage of the game while also reintroducing plant life which is consistent with how the course looked in the beginning. These new elements create more trouble on the golf course and playable hazard areas with thick grass, bunkers, and more to consider on every hole.
Key features of Pinehurst No. 2 include:
After every round, Planet Divot will update our Top 5 Leaderboard so that you can stay in the know for who is leading the 124th U.S. Open tournament. Here is the latest US Open Leaderboard as of Friday June 14th at 9am EST:

T2 | L. Åberg | -4 | 1 |
4 | M. Pavon | -3 | 1 |
T5 | B. DeChambeau | -2 | 1 |

The first round of the 2024 U.S. Open began Thursday at Pinehurst Resort's No. 2 course in North Carolina. Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay emerged as the co-leaders after the opening round, each shooting a 5-under 65 compared to the Round 1 average score of 73.2. McIlroy, seeking his 5th major win, carded a bogey-free round along with five birdies. Patrick Cantlay had six birdies and one bogey on his scorecard for the day. Trailing the pair is Ludvig Aberg (-4) and then Matthieu Pavon and Bryson DeChambeau at (-3). See our US Open leaderboard above for the Top 5 finishers after round 1 which will be updated after every round.
The projected cut line for the 2024 U.S. Open currently sits at 2-over. According to reporting from The Sporting News, that cut line matches the 2023 US Open event at the Los Angeles Country Club. Notable golfers projected to miss the cut include Tiger Woods (+4), Dustin Johnson (+4), Justin Thomas (+7), Sahith Theegala (+7), and Phil Mickelson (+9).
The top 60 players in the U.S. Open field (plus ties) advance to play the weekend. Compared to the Masters Tournament which accepts the top 50 players plus ties into the weekend, the US Open is the second most difficult major tournament to make the cut given that only 60 players make it to the weekend. Compared to the Open Championship and PGA Championship where 70 players make the cut, the US Open at Pinehurst No. 2 this year will be a challenge on the course for the best players on the world as well as on the leaderboard for the US Open format.
